Hospitality
The hospitality industry today is poised on the brink of a fundamental design change. To go green or not, that is the question! And for the overwhelming majority of proprietors, sustainability in hospitality is emerging as the right answer.
For years, hotels and resorts have been the premier places for relaxation whenever one needs a break away from the daily grind. But today, more than ever, guests are looking for places that are more than just a ‘hotel’, places that offer the quintessential lifestyle experience they seek, with the added comfort of home.
In addition, sustainability and green practices are a major deciding factor for visitors. According to VisitEngland data, 58% of guests prefer to stay in accommodations with green awards and environment-friendly practices.
What this means for the hospitality sector is – there’s a need to reinvent with sustainable practices at the heart of its strategy.
Our team of MEP experts creates high performance designs in compliance with codes ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 90.1, ASHRAE 189. This facilitates sustainable solutions for your hotel or resort by fusing advanced engineering and a luxurious lifestyle, thereby creating a superlative living experience for your guests.
Achieving sustainability in hospitality is practically a complex line to navigate, as it involves reevaluating every process and optimizing it, while still creating sustainable luxuries.
- Holistic design to ensure maximum guest comfort as well as reduced energy and water usage
- Motion-sensing lights in hallways and common areas and automatic room temperature sensors for effective use of electricity ● Increase in natural lighting and ventilation in large areas like the lobby, with solutions like glass facades and water curtains or other water features
- Use of sustainable HVAC systems that reduce energy consumption
- Controlling the carbon footprint of the hotel while upholding its brand value
- Optimizing house-keeping calls using automatic and user-friendly interfaces and controls
- Surveying natural landscape to implement daylight harvesting, geothermal cooling/heating systems, etc.
- Coordinating with the architects at the design and construction level to implement use of efficiency standards, renewable resources, and green building codes along with an aesthetic design
Sustainability in Action at the Revier Hotel, Business Bay, Dubai
Located at the heart of Dubai’s thriving business district, the Revier Hotel is a premium, 4-Star Hotel in the Business Bay area.
Designed from the ground up with sustainability principles in perspective, it is one of our biggest achievements in the green hospitality sector. The primary challenge was to effectively reduce the power consumption of the hotel, as there were severe limitations with respect to the total connected load.
Team Consistent put its best foot forward and carefully scrutinized all aspects of power consumption to come up with ingenious solutions to the problem. Some of these included:
- Converting all possible kitchen equipment to gas-based systems
- Execution of a ‘tight air envelope’ to reduce infiltration
- Optimization of chilled water pumps, FAHU fans, and extract systems
- Use of heat exchangers to cool the swimming pool
- Utilization of natural ventilation and ramps to maintain basement temperatures, along with extract fans to create negative pressure as necessary
- Optimum placement of power distribution points
With these and several other ways to enhance the sustainability of the hotel, we successfully reduced power consumption by 1300kW, equivalent to a 40% reduction!
Apart from this, Team Consistent has also provided designs across the GCC and India for such premium clients as The Dorchester, Kempinski Hotels, Radisson Hotel Group, Premier Inn Hotels and more.
